Short Biography
Evelyn Calderon Espinosa is a PhD student under the EUTOPIA co-tutelle program beneath the alliance of the VUB and the University of Warwick. Evelyn aims to elucidate the cross-talking signals between bone marrow and lung cancer which allows unravelling novel HSPC-mediated resistance mechanisms to current immunotherapy. Evelyn is an enthusiastic and passionate young researcher who also has a passion for teaching and dreams to become an effective science communicator.
Long Biography
Evelyn Calderon Espinosa is a passionate and enthusiastic young researcher. Evelyn gave her first steps in science by following a biotechnology engineering career in her undergraduate studies. Evelyn was attracted to cell and molecular biology from the very beginning and tried to be immersed as much as possible in projects related to those fields.
After completing her engineering, she was awarded the “Senescyt” Ecuadorian government scholarship to perform her master studies in England at the University of Leicester. Evelyn was awarded the “GE Healthcare Prize” as the best student in the Molecular Genetics master program during 2016-2017.
Evelyn’s passion for teaching and research took her to teach biochemistry and laboratory-related subjects in private and public universities in her natal Ecuador and be involved as a researcher and supervisor in different projects. Evelyn pursued her dream to develop molecular and cell biology in cancer immunology, and she obtained a position as a PhD student in the Vrije Universiteit Brussels and the University of Warwick beneath the EUTOPIA co-tutelle program. Evelyn aims to elucidate the cross-talking signals between bone marrow and lung cancer which allows unravelling novel HSPC-mediated resistance mechanisms to current immunotherapy. Moreover, Evelyn dreams of becoming an effective science communicator.
